Three simple hacks to de-stress

Three simple hacks to de-stress

Daniel MacDougall

“The truth is that stress doesn’t come from your boss, your kids, your spouse, traffic jams, health challenges, or other circumstances. It comes from your thoughts about your circumstances.”
―Andrew Bernstein

Three quick mind hacks to help clean away that pressure in your head.

I.

The breath. Something you rarely give any attention to, but the breath can create a wealth of clarity for your mind and health. Throughout your day, pay close attention to the rise and fall of your stomach as you inhale and exhale. Concentrate on this and feel the minor stresses in your body float away. Remember not to force this process. Just concentrate on the natural rhythm of your breath while you work, walk, or drive, and as you become aware, feel it while in conversation with others.

II.

Feeling stressed or stuck at work? Don't like the social scene around you? Try getting some space and go for a walk. Countless articles have been published on the benefits of getting outside. Get your feet moving and feel the fresh air. Watch what thoughts wander through your mind. Getting some fresh air could be what gets those creative juices pouring. Remember, early humans probably took twenty thousand steps a day on average.

III.

Feeling a little scattered or need a little extra boost without another cup of coffee? An article published in Plant Science Today (1) indicated that minute consumption of peppermint tea increased alertness and long-term memory. Chamomile tea, on the flip side, produces a contrasting direction in calming your mood. Try a relaxing cup of tea to bring your center back in focus.
